Chapter 5 - The Ugly Compound Preposition

Many people think that compound prepositions add an intellectual flavor to their written work. They throw around terms like "with respect to" and "in relation to" for the purpose of trying to sound intelligent. The compound preposition, however, does not make a more intellectual document. It merely confuses people, adds clutter, and promotes imprecision in your work.

Some Compound Prepositions & Translations

For the purposes of = For
In accordance with = By, Under
In a manner similar to = Like
In the event of = If
With regard to = About
At this point in time = Now
